Racewear Trends 2018 Style Tips

What are the racewear trends for Melbourne Cup 2018? How will you ace the racewear trends 2018?

The trick to getting it right is about adding a central focus to your outfit. Accessorise a  flamboyant frock with muted accessories. A bejewelled clutch should be offset with minimal jewellery. A statement hat should be worn with an understated dress.

Monochrome Musings:

The inaugural event of Melbourne Spring Racing Festival, Derby Day is a traditionalist’s delight.  Derby Day is set in the classic mode, with strict etiquette and dress code to follow. Derby Day is about monochrome,  tints and tones of black and white.

Black and white, in all its avatars, took over the city on Derby Day 2018. The sea of monochrome seemed to complement the grey skies. Men veered towards tints and tones of grey, ranging from silver to charcoal. Women wore lace dresses – white lace on white – black lace on white. Polka dots, big and small, were visible on swinging wrap dresses. Some women shimmered in head to toe silver. There were solid black dresses or white. Colour blocking on dresses, alternating between black and white, made bold statements. Clutch bags in black, white and silver completed the Derby Day outfits. Hats ranged from fascinators to the more versatile tiaras, boaters and sun hats. Some brave racegoers defied tradition and chose to dress as colourful as the Rosellas.

Melbourne Fashion Week 2017 – Deidaareview

As the spotlights switch off, what trends emerge from Melbourne Fashion Week 2017?

Melbourne Fashion week 2017 In full bloom

At Melbourne Fashion Week 2017, florals ruled the runways. Bold flowers in vivid colours complemented demure floral sprays in primrose. Deidaa’s floral maxi dresses, adorned with poppies and daisies, resonate with this theme.

In sync with nature

Tropical themes influenced the prints, silhouettes and embellishments on playsuits and dresses. Cockatoos and Macaws
nestled amidst hibiscus and frangipani. Designers at the Global Indigenous Runway excelled in this. They gave a contemporary twist to raffia dresses, woven corsets and face masks. Deidaa has a close affinity with the Pacific nations. The tropical theme is close to Deidaa’s heart. Deidaa’s digital tropical printed kaftan and hibiscus silk scarf are best sellers.

All stitched up

Cow girl embroidery adorned sheer frocks, playsuits, midi and maxi dresses. Deidaa works with master embroiderers. Deidaa’s beaded clutch bags are an ode to beaders and embroiderers.

Over the rainbow

For once, the Spring – Summer runway felt like spring. Fire engine reds, hot pinks, yellows and tangerines took precedence over winter colours. Deidaa celebrates colour in all its manifestations. Deidaa’s Australia scarves celebrate the colour of Australian flora and fauna.

Borrow stripes from drapes and awnings

Bold stripes from the furnishing department reinforced the resort look. Preppy black and white stripes were cheek by jowl with curtain and awning stripes. Deidaa’s kaftan dress, with bold black and white stripes, incorporates this trend.

Sparkle in silver

Metallics are not going away. Silver bomber jackets and dresses paired up with understated skirts and blazers. Do you yearn for the metallic look but will not wear metallic all over? Deidaa’s beaded clutch bags in gold and silver tones can add the metallic quotient.

Swinging sixties

Frills and ruffles were everywhere. Red dresses with tiered ruffles, palazzos and culottes, playful tops showed up everywhere. Deidaa’s ruffled lace skirt is a fine example of this.

Embrace diversity

This show was inclusive. It catered to women of all sizes. Models belonged to different ethnicities, age groups and genders. Deidaa applauds fashion week for doing this. Deidaa upholds diversity. Deidaa caters to women of all sizes, ethnicities and preferences.

Melbourne Fashion Week 2017 was by far the most eclectic show. It showcased new talent alongside veterans like Carla Zampatti.

Cannes Film Festival 2017 – Bollywood Babes Sizzle

Cannes Film Festival 2017 is the hottest event on the social calendar, south of France. Cannes Film Festival is as much about red carpet fashion as it is about cinema. Distinct from the Met Museum Gala’s avant garde aura, the red carpet at Cannes combines elegance with glamour.

The 5 hottest trends to emerge from the Cannes Film Festival 2017 are as follows:

Cannes Film Festival 2017 Slashed Hems:

Bare legs became a red carpet sensation at Cannes 2017. Supermodel Bella Hadid in an Alexander Vaulthier gown and social media sensation Emily Ratajkowski in an oyster pink slit dress bared their impeccably toned legs with aplomb . Uma Thurman was statuesque in a pale pink sculpted dress with a high slit. Bollywood star Deepika Padukone made her first major appearance at Cannes dressed in an emerald green off shoulder dress offering a sneak peek of her never ending limbs. But it was 70 year old Susan Sarandon who proved that age is no bar to a flash of exposed leg.

Bollywood rules:

Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai was the toast of papparazzi in a Cinderellaesque powder blue hand beaded gown created by Phillipino designer Michael Cinco. She followed it up with a ruffled Ralph and Russo gown. For her maiden appearance at Cannes, as the newly recruited brand ambassador of L’oreal cosmetics, Deepika Padukone wore an emerald green Brandon Maxwell sheath with thigh high slits. The clean, no fuss look was highlighted with peacock eyes and diamond ear cuffs. Looking for Bollywood inspired fashion? Your search ends at Deidaa. Shop at Deidaa for designer silk scarves, maxi dresses, digital printed kaftan dresses, handmade beaded clutch bags and more.

Champagne flows:

Champagne flowed physically and metaphorically as the stars made a big switch from the flamboyant to the subtle. Emily Ratajkowski, Uma Thurman and Bella Hadid showed off cleavage baring corsetry and figure hugging silhouettes in champagne and nude colours. Elle Fanning wore a Vivienne Westwood off shoulder gown scribbled with signature Westwood motifs.

Colour my world with cobalt blue and vivid red:

Winnie Harlow’s cobalt blue Zuhair Murad dress provided the perfect foil to the neutrals and shell pinks as did Julian Moore’s burgundy lace halter gown. In her alternate Cannes avatar, Bella Hadid wore a quilted red dress with a necklace from Bulgari’s iconic serpenti range. Harley Baldwin’s cobalt blue peplum dress with a deep cleavage added to the colour quotient.

Embroidery and beading hold their own:

If you are talking glamour, you can’t go beyond beading and embroidery. Princess of Venice and French actress Clotilde Courau did full justice to her royal lineage, dressed in a pale pink Elie Saab gown with a beaded bodice. Eva Herzigova added glamour to the red carpet, dressed in an opulent metallic Roberto Cavalli couture gown. Jessica Chastain wore an Alexander McQueen dress with an embroidered torso. Chris Lee in a cheong sam inspired dress spangle with embroidered tigers and Jessica Chastain in a beaded mini dress with floor length fringed tassels kept the handmade banner flying.

Craving a dash of red carpet glamour? Deidaa’s cobalt blue silk dress accessorised with one of Deidaa’s exquisitely handcrafted clutch bags  can unleash the diva in you!
